PSSA Color Week

  Highland

PSSA Color Week

Monday, March 19th – Wear a YELLOW shirt to school.  The color yellow is associated with intelligence and hope.  All Highland students are welcome to join us as we help the 3rd and 4th grade kick off a successful PSSA week.

Tuesday, March 20th – Wear a RED shirt to school.  The color red is associated with bravery and courage.  Join us today in wearing red as the 3rd and 4th grade brave through their longest day.

Wednesday, March 21st – Wear a BLUE shirt to school.  The color blue is associated with calmness.  Join us today in enjoying a calm day #3 of testing.

Thursday, March 22nd – Wear an ORANGE shirt to school.  Orange is associated with determination and endurance.  Join us today as the 3rd and 4th grade endure day #4 of their PSSA testing.

Friday, March 23rd – Wear a PURPLE shirt or your HEROES shirt today.  Purple shows wisdom and our 3rd and 4th graders can celebrate their wisdom on their last day of testing for math and reading PSSA.

Please note – If you do not have a shirt to match the color of the day, do not feel the need to buy one for your child.  IF you can, wear another article of clothing to match the color of the day.

The Brain Show

THE BRAIN SHOW

I want to thank the PTO, students and parents for three great events on March 8th.  The AM kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades were the first to experience The Brain Show at Highland.  They were able to get on stage to answer trivia questions and doing a little dancing.  In the afternoon, PM kindergarten, 3rd and 4th grade had great fun getting on stage and dancing along with the music.  At 6:30 The Brain Show was open to all Highland families and about 150 continued in the fun from earlier in the day.  It was exciting to see everyone have such a good time!

Snowman

The snowman has arrived!!

It is the season to “adopt “a local Ephrata family.  For the past couple of years, Highland PTO has been asking families from our school to help support a local family.  We have placed a wooden snowman in the front lobby and hanging from the snowman are gift tags (gingerbread men & snowmen). Items needed are written on the tags. If you would like to help make this holiday season a little brighter, an adult may select one tag and purchase that item. Please tape your gift tag on your present and return it unwrapped, to the front office at Highland. All gifts need to be at Highland no later than December 19th, 2011. Thank you for your generosity!!

Hurricane Hole

Race for Education's "Hurricane Hole" opened for business last week.  Students that brought in 5 or more labels towards the PTO sponsored Race for Education fundraiser were eligible to earn 'race bucks'.   Last week, some of the students redeemed their race bucks at the "Hurricane Hole" store - they could purchase treasure box items, pencils, erasers, squinkies, lunchboxes, stickers, glow sticks, Cafe passes, and extra recess passes.  More students will be brought up to shop later this week.  Volunteers are pulling small groups of students at a time to shop the store.  The kids even have to do some math practice and decision making to calculate just how far their money will go!
